POWERVIEW, Man. — A Manitoba band councillor says a nine-year-old boy has died after an accidental shooting at his home.
Derrick Henderson of the Sagkeeng First Nation says the boy died Thursday night.
Henderson says the close-knit community 145 kilometres northeast of Winnipeg is devastated.
He says many people on the reserve hunt and fish so firearms are not uncommon.
He says the shooting underscores the importance of keeping all guns locked away from curious children.
RCMP are expected to provide more information later today.
