Thumbs up 33rd “Art Matters” Forum

On 9 December 2008, Their Excellencies The Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean C.C., C.M.M., C.O.M., C.D., the Governor General of Canada, and Mr. Jean-Daniel Lafond, are to host the 33rd Art Matters Forum. The forum has been scheduled to accompany the presentation ceremony for the Governor General’s Literary Awards, to take place the next day.

The Forum, to be moderated by Ms. Jeanette Kelly (of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation’s Montréal Radio One), has been themed “A Passion for Reading”. The Forum is to feature the views of Ms. Kerry Clare (a blogger and writer), Ms. Geneviève Côté (an illustrator), Ms. Myriam Cusson (General and Artistic Director of Salon du livre du Grand Sudbury), and Ms. Margaret Eaton (President of ABC Canada Literacy Foundation).

Also to be featured are the comments of laureates of the Literary Awards, before the Forum opens up to the comments and observations of the public. It should be an exciting discussion; I’ve watched one of the other “Art Matters” Fora that was hosted by Mr. Lafond, and it very much spoke to me about the key role that institutions that promote the arts play for Canada (and other nations throughout the world).

On 10 December, the 72nd edition of the Governor General’s Literary Awards is to be presented. The awards, which are decided upon by the Canada Council for the Arts, recognise French and English laureates in such categories as poetry, drama, children’s literature, and translation (amongst others). The award ceremony is to be hosted by the Governor General, at Rideau Hall.

Nah, let's just be neanderthals...... no nuances, no subtlety, let's make the world black and white....no painting, no books, no music, no dance, no film........ let's all move to North Korea...I couldn't live like that.

They are as much a necessity to man's nature and growth as the air itself...

It certainly invites the opportunity for propaganda.
