I find it utterly ridiculous that Canada has an election any time someone gets thier shorts in a knot.

I also find it ridiculous that Canadian citizens do not elect the Prime Minister directly.
If aliens are looking for intelligent life?! WHY THE HECK ARE YOU SCARED?!

Sure isn't as convuluted & stilted as what it takes to elect people in the USA. What with primaries, caucuses, conventions and all the other hoops to go thru to elect someone. Compared to that the First past the post (Canadian system) is the model of simplicity.

In Canada we mark an X on a piece of cardboard. That X is tallied and voila we have a new government within hours of the last poll closing.

    • No hanging chads
    • No supreme court challenges
    • No Alec Baldwin threatening to move away

    I like our system better.

Its not as good as our Toronto Mayor results. Voting is done and read by scanner. Results take 5 minutes to tally.

Funny thing about the law. It's always a crime to break it, whether you get caught or not.

Your right. I should have been clearer you only face the consequences when caught by authorities otherwise its your conscience you have to face.

But different degrees of criminality, wouldn't you agree?

Would you lock a guy up for the same amount of time. Definitely not.

You're talking about sentencing, not guilt.

Murder and conspiracy to commit, may have two different sentences under the law (25 years, for murder. 10/14, for conspircay.) Buth they're equally illegal.

The Conservatives most definitely conspired to form a coalition gov't. They even had papers drafted and delivered to the GG acknowledging their commitment withe the Bloc.

How is that any less repugnant then the Liberal/NDP/Bloc coalition?

    It isn't.

One may have actually over thrown the gov't of the day, while the other failed to convince the GG they would make a good governing body. But all parties are culpable is this fiasco.
