I do not observe Lent thus I will not be giving anything up. Some of my Catholic friends will be.

I admire those that do chose to "go without" as I believe it instills or at least reinforces self dicipline. I believe self dicipline is something to be highly valued.

I don't think God cares whether we go without or not. I think it is something we do for ourselves because it is part of a spiritual odessey. Thus it is important because it creates a state whereby we can learn and grow.
