    Banking Experiences

    1) What bank are you with?
    2) What experience have you had with them?
    3) If applicable, what other banks have you been with, and what's your experiences been like with them?

Alright. My first experience was with CIBC when I was little. Not good. Charged me $12 to open the account...for a kid putting in a $100...then the hours were terrible. Open at 10 and closed at 3, so a kid going to school without a debit card was screwed. Left them after a year and went to RBC and been there ever since.

They've been fair. I was originially on Leo's Young Savers account, which screwed me over last year because I was only allowed 10 POS debit transactions a month. I switched up to a Student Saver's account and now I get 25 which rid me of all my overage charges. I guess I like Royal cause its big. Its the largest bank in Canada with over 22 million clients and wherever I am I can easily find an RBC branch or ATM.

I don't like Credit Unions...all these freaks in my town who swear by them...I've done research and I get way better service for less cost, and besides...I work in retail part-time and can say credit unions go down a lot, and the debit cards are rendered useless for those times when they're having a computer crash.

CIBC for nearly 10 years. I don't recall having any problems.

Before getting into your question I would just like to make a general comment that all banks and insurance companies are legalized thieves.

Every CEO and board member should be dipped in boiling oil, set on fire for 30 seconds then extinguished, then repeat the process until they are dead.

Now having said that for personal use, the larger the bank generally the more services they offer. I have been using Bank of America for years and have had problems but they have taken the consumer should be satisfied approach. Banks are all fine until you have a problem, when you don't have a problem then there are no problems.

For business, the smaller the bank the better to develop personal relationships.

I would echo ITN's assessment of banks and their executives!

I use one of the big three Canadian banks and I've always been satisfied with the service.

I'd be more specific, but I'd suggest any threads polling for info like this should be in the members-only section...

Well Bank of Montreal finally came through for me this year.

I was having trouble accessing my acct. I went into the bank, *something I seldom if EVER do any more*. She fixed my problem and I had to go to the machine to alter my PIN. I was there for a minute or two, she came after me and said if I switched my primary acct from my chequing to my savings there would be no monthly fee as they had just changed their service packages this year.

THEN she reimbursed me for three months and placed the money back into my acct........ WTF????????

I damn near fainted in the bank. Wow an employee that not only has been well trained but one who understands "customer service".

The rest of the experiences aren't worth sharing. Suffice to say, I am not impressed with the way they did NOT handle my investments when I was young and too stupid to know what I "should" have been doing. So, they lost my money. Good for me, too bad for them. Greed = loss in the end.

I go to the big Green one. Had my first account there, and now a chequing account and personal line of credit. Never had any bad experiences with them. I also had an ATB account when I was working in Alberta one summer. Didn't have a problem with them either.
If I told you my printing was this good, would you believe me?

I have also done all my banking with one of the big three Canadian Banks for many years and never had a problem. But I do agree what ITN said about the CEO.
    The cat's meow.

As for the poll, NEVER keep all of your cash in one bank. Not so many years ago the Royal Bank glitched and people could not withdraw any cash for several days nor use their debit cards. Since we are now essentially a cashless society many people were screwed...Thus ensure you have several accts with several banks just in case one fails you then have access to another.
