It could be worse ... you could be using Window's Vista.

I will probably keep XP until something I want to run will not run on it.

I became so frustrated with Vista I had it removed and replaced with XP. I lost some capabilities but it was worth it.

i forgot to mention, i had a similar problem when my cd/dvd drive stopped working. i tried to install the microsoft file and to my shock, it actually fixed the problem and my cd/dvd drive started working again. i can't guarantee that it will work for you all, though.
