    Windows 7 arrrrrrgggghh

Actually its a pretty cool program, but it keeps screwing with my DVD CD drive. Sometimes its there sometimes its not. I have tried using the solutions center to rectify it, but fixes seem only temporary.

Does anyone know how togo into the registry to uninstall the CD drive that it reloads at start up?

I have the same problem with one of my cd drives. Don't have a solution but thought you might find comfort that you are not alone LOL

It could be worse ... you could be using Window's Vista.

I will probably keep XP until something I want to run will not run on it.

7 is great. Just this one issue.

I tried online and to look for drivers is a venture in futility as you get bombarded by all this registry check crap.

    1. Click Start, and then click All Programs.
    2. Click Accessories, and then click Run.
    3. Type regedit, and then click OK. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.
    4. In the navigation pane, locate and then click the following registry subkey:
      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
    5. In the right pane, click UpperFilters. You may also see an UpperFilters.bak registry entry. You do not have to remove that entry. Click UpperFilters only. If you do not see the UpperFilters registry entry, you still might have to remove the LowerFilters registry entry. To do this, go to step 8.
    6. On the Edit menu, click Delete.
    7. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
    8. In the right pane, click LowerFilters.
    9. On the Edit menu, click Delete.
    10. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
    11. Exit regedit
    12. Restart the computer.

    Hmmmmm....

Something is modifying your registry and making the DVD drive not be seen on the PC. Let me see if I can find out what that may be.

    Have you tried this?

Open the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter

(still looking for what may be changing your registry)
