    Not forgoten.

I haven't forgotten about this section, just been rather busy with testing different CMS systems (CMS = Content Management System) for websites. Still trying to decide how I will be hosting tutorials and such. Where I was stuck at was with different content managers not being compatible with others and having to find new ways to hack them in order to make them work. Just sit tight I'll get back on track soon enough.

Well simply put, for some messed up reason or reasons yet to be discovered, Apache isn't accepting stream downloads. Altho I'll say this, I've made some rather radical twists using mod_rewrite and I've had to make some rather drastic changes to my .htaccess file for that download folder itself and I think that's what's buggering the whole streaming deal.

to give you an idea, I've had to downgrade from apache 2.2 back to 2.0 just to regain some control on some features. They claim they haven't really done anything to apache that's supposed to make much difference in features, but only in security patches.. I say BS they've changed something in the language markup somewhere, because mod_rewrite wasn't working at all for me with 2.2. Now at least mod-rewrite is working to some extent.

All in all I've got 3 basic tutorials done so far. On a different note, I don't suppose you'd know of a program or have something to limit upstream bandwidth would you? As in something to choke an outgoing stream to say 25kbps for example. On UNIX I was using the PF to QoS, but on winblows there's no such feature. Well there is but what Win offeres is a global bandwidth choke through a registry hack. I don't wana do that because then it'll choke my entire bandwidth. I'm just looking to choke apache so that when someone downloads off me I don't end up chewing my keyboard while playing a game online.

I really admire you guys who know your way around a computer. I came to computers a bit late in life, mid-40s, and my knowledge extends to logging on line, working with Word Perfect Office, and a few other things. I would be totally lost in a conversation with you people.

I still have to finish creating all the basic photoshop tutorials. That's why I created this topic. It's not forgotten nor canceled, it's just put on the back burner seeing I'd rather host my vids off my own server instead of a cheap online free server with too many limitations. But in order to get all the features that I want running to be based off a windows based web server is tricky for security reasons. I really miss my BSD box, why did it die, it was supposed to live forever!!!!

8 1/2 yrs of life for an old AMD K6 machine running 24/7 is a pretty good run I guess. hehe!

Well if you're really interested, this is how I started getting to know windows when I had no idea what I was doing.. I remember one of my first searches was something like this "windows 2K how too" and went from there.

You can always get some O'Rilley books. They're also great for learning, not to mention very easy to understand also. O'Rilley' books are fantastic for new users looking to learn more. They can be found in any library or book shops. Highly recommended and don't cost a fortune either.

    ;)
