    New compact digital

The Canon PowerShot (SX110 IS), is a great buy for anyone looking for a new inexpensive portable camera. It holds a slew of excellent features such as:

    - Digital image stabilizer
    - 9 mega pixel
    - 10 X zoom
to name a few. Usually I tend to discourage anyone from going over board with the mega pixels for the simple fact that they simply end up chewing up memory like hogs with little to no difference in the image quality compared to a 5 MP camera. But considering this model offers a digital image stabilizer having the extra resolution is quite handy to prevent quality loss. All this to add up to a great purchase for a compact camera.

Although the fact that this camera operates on standard AA batteries which also add to its convenience, it could also be it's downfall of being forced to carrying around a few spares in case they run out. Digital cameras are power hungry, and I personally don't recommend using Lithium Ion (li) AA batteries. Seeing Digital cameras are considered a constant high drain on the power source, Lithium Ion batteries wouldn't be the best choice as they tend to heat up very quickly (heat + electronics = BAD). The best choice for rechargeable batteries are always nickel metal oxide (NiMH) batteries. Granted they don't last as long as (li) batteries, but they do last longer than Nickle Cadmium (NiCAD).

Consumer Reports rated it the best buy.

One of the best features Canon has is their face recognition software that focuses on the face when something nearer to the camera would otherwise get the focus. It also recognizes faces in crowds and applies the best focus setting to get them all.

When faces are overlit compared to the background it will selectively adjust the exposure so the background isn't darkened by toning down the face.

They've also got an enclosure you can buy to use the camera underwater.

Saw that camera during the holidays . My uncle had one. The facial recognition thing was awsome . If you put your hand over your eyes it didn't work.
On the lcd screen it would 'box' all the faces it recognized .
I think my uncle didn't noticed that feature.
