If you look at Google maps anywhere from Cochrane to Thunder Bay and zoom in anywhere more than five miles off highway 11 and you see very few roads.......it means there ain't any:whistle:
 I know that, but things change and I've never hunted Moose in Ontario. I imagine it's a lot like Quebec, and Crown land usage varies from plot to plot.

Not to mention, the MNR has some pretty strict new rules about hunting on unposted land. I'ld hate like hell to just wander out in to the woods and find myself on the wrong side of the law or worse, dead.

My area consists of WMU 23, 24 and 30...
Years ago the special archery season used to be in area 23 and started weeks ahead of the firearm season....but yo will have to check the regulations because I haven't hunted big game in 8 years and rules change.....
I'll look into that before next year. Thanx.
One good place for an out of towner to have a base camp would be Rufus lake lodge in area 23 http://www.rufuslakeoutfitters.com/accommodations.html
    That place looks nice. Thanx.
I've stayed there years ago when a friend owned the place....It's about 60 miles,,,100 klicks west and south of Kapuskasing and all the gravel bush roads can be navigated with a GPS...(The local lumber company has them well mapped)
I can get you more information as you need it when you have your location picked..
Sounds pretty good, I'll check out their prices. SCB is pretty strict with the cash flow,

Do you know anything of these rituals Bear, is there an actual ritual with smoke used to try and have a vision? I find the whole premise fascinating, and of course you know I am acting as a sponge for other reasons.
You may thinking of a sweat lodge. It's a southern Nation thing, brought up here in the 60/70's.

A small hut like dome over a dug out pit where fire heated rocks are placed in side with the occupants. This creates an extremely hot environment, that oft triggers heat induced hallucinations. It's an extremely wild ride.

If you would like to know what it's like, look up "How I became Ohkwai" It's on here somewhere. It's a recounting of the sweat lodge I did when I was 13.

There is no Great Spirit(s) and the largely fabricated culture that many Indians currently subscribe to is nothing more then one more tool to subjugate them and ensure they do not integrate fully into the greater society.

Alas, all the best in your hunt. Here is my prayer:

As I lay me down to sleep,
I pray the Lord his deer to keep.
If I should die before I wake,
Tell the deer they're finally safe.

Figures, I got rained and drained out on my first full day of hunting.

It was raining here when I got up at 4am, and I'm drained from fighting a wicked cold.

But the day seems to have dried out and apart from some scattered showers today, the day looks pretty good. So Kooter and I will be heading out this afternoon to see if we can't get us some fresh meat...
