It is now 10 years since that fateful day in 2001.
On this day, four passenger aircrafts, (two from American Airlines, the other from United Airlines), were hijacked by 19 terrorists belonging to the Islamist militant group al-Qaeda, as they were intentionally crashed into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. A fourth plane was also intended to attack Washington, DC, but with the determination and fight of the passengers of United Flight 93, the aircraft had eventually crashed into a field outside of Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
In almost two hours, the United States and The World had changed, forever.
In total, almost 3,000 lives were taken in this attack, including numerous Americans and Canadians. After weeks of uncertainty, the United States had declared a 'war on terror' in early October of that year, against those of al-Qaeda and the former leader of the organization, Osama bin Laden.
It has been 10 years since that fateful day in 2001, and the world has never forgotten about it. In all three attack centres, people have gathered to remember and mourn for the lives lost, on this day. In New York City, President Obama, his wife Michelle, and former President George W. Bush and his wife Laura, have gathered with numerous people in a bittersweet memorial, where two fountains have taken the spots where the two towers once stood.
For the numerous lives lost on that day, including the many brave men and women who served under their respected police and fire departments, may you all rest in peace, once more.
Remember 9/11
