There has been some confusion lately about what the colours for members’ names mean. These colours distinguish between types of members, based on status as “new”, or to show that a member volunteers over and above the role of a standard member. On rare occasions, these colours can also stand for some sort of restrictions placed on a member.
Members whose names are grey are new members. These members can read and create threads and posts, but they can’t access “members-only” sections of the board. These members are also unable to access some special features. Once these members have reached 250 posts, they graduate to regular membership (as described below).
Members whose names are blue are standard members. These members can read and create threads and posts, and they have access to the “members-only” sections of the board. These members also have access to the forum’s special features. Most of the board’s membership is made up of standard members.
Members whose names are dark green are Support Staff. These members have graciously volunteered to assist with the behind-the-scences workings of the board. These members coordinate some board functions, such as the calender, the arcade, the blogs, and other special features. Though these members should set a good example for others, they are not moderators, and have no access to moderator functions.
Members whose names are aquarium green are Moderators. These members have volunteered to monitor and moderate the board. They are responsible for considering and responding to reports, questions and concerns. Moderators can move threads, rename threads, delete spam, and issue warnings and infractions for breaches of forum norms and rules.* Moderators may also support administrative tasks, from time to time.
Members whose names are red are Administrators. The Administration oversees the smooth operations of the Web site and forum. Administrators also consider and respond to appeals by members of moderators’ decisions or actions. These members are responsible for the administration of special features, member permissions, and the forum’s technical framework.
Members whose names are pink are suspended members. On rare occasions, a member may become suspended, which means that the member cannot access the board for a predetermined timeframe. Suspended members become standard members once the suspension period has ended.
Members whose names are black are banned members. It is extremely rare for a member to be banned, unless that member is a “spammer”. Banned members have lost the right to access the board. Bans, unlike suspensions (above), do not expire.
